About Surendranath Evening College
Our college is a co-educational institution situated at 24/2 Mahatma Gandhi Road, Kolkata-9. It aims to impart education to students from all levels of society, with especial care for the underprivileged. To ensure this, the college, through its teaching and administrative staff, pledges its utmost devotion. We wish our students a happy, successful and well-rounded life, strengthened by the principles of this institution. The goal of our college is to serve the best quality teaching services to the downtrodden students.

Our Vision
The vision of the college is to impart education and knowledge at all levels of the society. The vision is to build up a sound human resource base of the state and to attain the status of a model evening college in the Eastern region of India.
Our Mission
All of us are familiar with the Sanskrit phrase ‘Chhatranam adhyanang tapoh’. Taking inspiration from this maxim our mission is to provide a thorough ethical and aesthetic foundation to the character of our students. Going beyond formal pedagogy we wish to develop a model human resource center, which would not churn out students but build human beings who are humble yet confident. Thus our motto: ‘Vidya dadati vinayang’. Surendranath Evening College vows to attain the objectives of a model evening college in Bengal vis-a-vis India.

Our Belief
We believe that higher education in diversified fields of studies is most fruitful when individuals at every level of our society share it. This is well reflected when our students excel in their job places. We believe that “knowledge imparts humility”.
Basic features of Our College & Students
The college is located near Sealdah station well connected by railway links having a vast hinterland. The hinterland covers vast urban, suburban, and rural areas. A large number of families with poor financial and social educational background reside near our college. The students from these families find place in our college. Further, students employed during day time or busy otherwise get themselves admitted to quench their thirst for knowledge. Our College bears a tradition over the decades.

Our college imparts education amongst the students at all levels of our society with a specific attention towards the downtrodden and adds knowledge to cherish the goal of our nation at large. The college pledges its devotion to the pupils of our country. By means of academic audit, reviewing of institutional processes by involving of faculty members, students and staff, we are continuously trying to improve our delivery of teaching services at the lowest possible costs.
Our college is presently governed by a democratically constituted Governing Body consisting of seven members out of fourteen members nominated/selected by the University of Calcutta as well as by the Director of Public Instruction, Government of West Bengal, local self-government, and the rest (seven) members consisting of four representatives from Teaching Staff, two representatives from Non-Teaching Staff, and the General Secretary, Students’ Union. The college follows the government orders and instructions on finance matters relating to salary and dearness allowance disbursement to the staffs.
